Michael W. Redding, Ed.D.
Michael W. Redding became the vice president for university relations on July 1, 2009, after serving as vice president for university advancement since January 1, 2009. He has served as a senior administrator at the University of Oregon since 2000. He has held several positions including associate vice president for governmental affairs, and associate vice president for public and government affairs, where he was responsible for directing an extensive division within what was then University Advancement.
University Relations is made up of Public and Government Affairs, the UO Alumni Association, and the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art. The unit’s goal is to build support of the university, its programs and initiatives among its various constituents. A member of the president’s cabinet since 2004, Redding has worked closely with the president and other senior UO leaders on university priorities and goals. He serves on a variety of leadership committees at the university and within the Oregon University System.
In his time at the university, Redding has led efforts to secure resources from the state, directed the federal relations agenda, and managed all public affairs and critical communications issues. In addition, he has directed local government and community relations effort and has overseen the university’s overall marketing and communications operations. He has also been instrumental in leading an integrated advancement operation that has successfully secured new private and public resources to support the institutions important public mission.
Redding holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Delaware, a master’s degree in governmental administration from the University of Pennsylvania and a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Pennsylvania.
